About MeMy name is Raymond Nichols and I am a senior at SMSA. I come from a small town where nobody ever seems to leave. When I was in 5th grade, my parents and I decided that I would come and attend SMSA for 6th grade. In my town, it was predominantly white and looking back, it was only a small glimpse of what the world was really like. Coming to this diverse school really opened my eyes and gave me a whole new perspective on the world and different walks of life. Ever since a kid my parents have done their best to instill a great work ethic into me. I first started working when I was 8 years old for my dad landscaping when I wanted to save up for a dirt bike. He would have me come to every job with him and do things like pick up sticks, weed, or use a mini leaf blower he had gotten for me. Now that I'm older I realized I was not even worth the $4 an hour he gave me, he was just teaching me that if I wanted something, I had to earn it. I have always worked for everything I wanted, whether it was a pair of shoes or a car. I will be forever thankful for the way my parents raised me. Growing up this way has taught me to really appreciate the things I have in life and encourages me to give back when I can.
